FAMILY SKI
Choosing the right family skiing holiday needn't be a problem. Over the years family situations change and different resorts suit the various life stages - from the days of needing childcare, to when your teens overtake you on the slopes.
Where to go? When grandparents come along as babysitters but don't ski
More and more families are opting for three generation holidays, where grandparents fill the childcare gap so that parents can enjoy the slopes. A resort like Seefeld is an ideal choice for all generations. It is perfect beginner territory for children to take their first turns, it has enough to keep parents happy on the Gschwandkopf and Rosshuette and grandparents can enjoy winter walking or a trip to the nearby city of Innsbruck on their 'day-off'.
How much?
Stay at the all-inclusive 4* Hotel Bergland in Seefeld, with prices starting from £2601.70 for a family of 4, based on children under 12 sharing their parents room in January 2011. Price includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, child discount of up to 35%, flights from Gatwick and resort transfers. Per person adult prices start from £729.

Where to go? For a child's first ski trip
When introducing a child to skiing for the first time, it is important to choose a resort where they can experience both skiing and non-ski activities. They are eager to play in the snow as well as well! Quiet, convenient and just over one hour from Innsbruck airport lies the beautiful village of Serfaus, offering extensive snow-sure skiing and excellent kindergartens with Englishspeaking staff. The Serfaus "Kinderschneealm" - just for kids - has its own cable car, restaurant, merry-go-round, bouncy castle, igloo, mini-skidoos and toboggan run to ensure plenty of fun!
How much?
Stay in an apartment in Serfaus for seven nights, with prices starting from €850 for up to two adults and two children up to the age of 14. Innsbruck is served daily by easyJet.com or five times a week by ba.com from Gatwick.

The Igloo Villages in Tirol give the impression of being secret sanctuaries. In Hochoetz, Kühtai, Mayrhofen and Hochbrixen you will find these ice grottoes in the middle of the ski areas. Between ten and eighteen Igloo-bungalows are scattered around several larger Igloos.
During the day sun worshippers can enjoy arctic atmosphere and iced drinks at the Snow Bar. The party spirit continues even after the ski lifts stop operating and silence returns to the mountains. Come nightfall in Hochbrixen, you can start the Shaman hike. The biggest Igloo Party hits the stage in Mayrhofen, where international DJs play to a crowd of up to 350 guests at the White Lounge at 2000m high. And down in the valley, everyone gears up for the legendary SNOWBOMBING festival in April in Mayrhofen.

Customs and traditions are what make the pre-Christmas period in the Tirol special. Advent markets conjure up the spirit of the season, and are the perfect place to immerse yourself in spicy festive fragrances and listen to the tunes of the trumpeters.
You'll find them all over the Tirol, with the markets in Lienz, Rattenberg, Imst, Hall and of course in Innsbruck particularly popular and brimming with festive cheer.
