Innsbruck is the Capital city of the Tyrol region and has all the amenities to match, with the added benefit of having 9 Ski resorts within a 45 minute drive of the city.  The only resort with direct access from Innsbruck by funicular is Nordpark although a free shuttle-bus service takes you to all of the other resorts in the area and the ski-pass is surprisingly generous with its offering.
