The resorts are small, friendly and very well run. You are a long way north, which means the weather can be harsh, and daylight is at a premium in midwinter, but by the time it gets to Easter, the sun doesn’t set until 11pm. The fells are, compared to the Alps, relatively low-lying, so runs tend to be short. Be prepared for a lot of drag lifts. But the snow is good and the terrain offers some good, fun skiing and boarding. Another big plus is the lack of queues. There are also lots of other winter activities to try, from husky sledging to cross-country skiing. And watch out for the Northern Lights.
