The French Alps have it all – magnificent scenery, 8,000km of pistes to suite all tastes, hundreds of resorts, great food, and either glitz and glamour or rustic charm. But is also has absurd slope side prices in some resorts (€15 for a plate of greasy chips!) and it can get crowded at high season, particularly during the school holidays.
So pick your resort carefully, try to avoid peak times, avoid the self-service mountain restaurants (stick to hot chocolate and warm wine) and enjoy some of the best skiing and boarding in the world.
