A ski area in Colorado that has been closed for ten years may re-open if $14 million can be found to finance it.

When it last operated Cuchara was one of the world's top ten highest ski resorts with lift-side accommodation, with its base at 2819m and top lift at 3294m, it had five lifts, four of them chairs, and nearly 30 runs.

Now under new ownership, local government officials now need to decide whether to deem the ski area an official 'recreation district' and issue bonds to fund Cuchara's re-opening.

The new owners plans include a new hotel and conference centre, lake for summer recreation, mountain coaster, zip line and the resurrection of the centre's downhill skiing, halfpipe and tubing hill. A Colorado Springs based developer also plans to spend $7m on construction projects at the centre.
Cuchara is located about 110 miles from Colorado Springs and 190 miles from Denver.
