French ski area Serre Chevalier valley is making preparations to host two freeride events in one weekend: the Serre Chevalier Derby and the Ultimate Tour Test.

Taking place over the weekend of 19th and 20th March 2011, the competitions are expected to attract a high turnout of riders and spectators to Serre Chevalier in the Southern French Alps.

The Derby, taking place on Saturday 19th March, is a freeride event in ski, snowboarding, monoski and telemark and is open to anyone aged 16 or over. Last year's event attracted over 100 competitors trying their luck on three demanding runs with impressive vertical drops.

The second day of the weekend will see the 10th Ultimate Tour Test which provides an opportunity for enthusiasts to discuss and test extreme equipment crafted by 'Artisans du Ride'. These products have been made by freeride craftsmen, or 'shapers', who produce limited quantities of unique products, developing them for those who share a passion for the sport and demand the very best equipment for the most challenging terrain and conditions. Thirty established brands including Quicksilver, Aigle, North Face, Arva and Recco will be there, with more than 500 products availabe to test.

Self-catering prices with Erna Low start at £158 per person per week, based on four sharing a studio apartment. Departures are on 19 March and include of a free upgrade to a Eurotunnel FlexiPlus crossing which offers greater convenience and flexibility.
