A stunning new 26 million-euro base station has been built at Schladming in preparation for the 2013 Alpine Ski World Championship.

The impressive new valley station has a striking architectural design: an enormous loop surrounds it, supported by 74 huge slanting pillars - each with a weight-bearing capacity of 230 tonnes. The impressive building contains a total of 270 tonnes of steel and 2,000m³ of cement.

Inside, everything from ski lessons and equipment to lift tickets are available for guests to book.

Over the past couple of seasons, two eight-seater chairlifts have also been added as the Austrian resort warms up for the competition.
