Thumb loops may be a useful addition

This mid-weight Italian-made micro-fleece comes in a range of colours from low-profile grey and black to loud green and orange, which means that it's likely you'll find an option that appeals, especially given the stylish cut; we also liked the slightly offset contrasted flatlock chest seam which adds to the style of the Ampezzo.

However, the inside of this garment is even more appealing than the outside. The brushed fleece lining feels absolutely lovely against bare skin, and although as a mid-weight fleece the idea is that you don a thin base layer beneath it, you'll probably be tempted to wear it as your next-to-skin layer since it feels so good.

The shaped cut and stretch fabric allow for excellent freedom of movement in the Ampezzo, and the half-zip makes it easy to regulate your temperature, whilst the collar is high enough to keep out most drafts.

The design is clean and basic, so there are no extraneous bits and bobs to get in the way of the practicality of the garment. If we were looking to find fault with the Ampezzo we'd perhaps say thumb loops would be useful, but that's really being pedantic - it's a well-designed, good-looking mid-layer that you'll find yourself using year-round and in all weathers when layered with other base and outer layers.
