Finding a pair of ski pants that offer all the features you need isn't as easy as it should be, but the Salomon Brilliant more or less pulls it off - as long as you want insulated ski pants, that is.
In cold conditions the Brilliant's combination of quilted and microfleece liner and a high rear waist do a fine job of keeping you snug, and if things warm up there are knee-to-hip zipped vents with mesh backing on the outside of either leg.
You can obtain a good fit around the waist thanks to Velcro adjusters and/or a belt, with nice big belt loops to keep this in place, and the 'engineered fit' and reasonably loose cut allow plenty of ease of movement.
There's a good selection of pockets too; two zipped hand pockets, one rear pocket with popper fastening and a zipped cargo pocket on the right leg.
Our only minor issue with the Brilliant was the pockets; there's a faux rear left pocket, which consists of just a pointless pocket flap, and the popper fastening on the 'real' pocket means that snow may get into the very pocket that is most likely to find itself buried under snow.
The Brilliant is rounded off with scuff guards on the inside of the lower leg and on the rear hem, and, of course, snow gaiter.
You're sticking your neck out when you call your product 'Brilliant', but in this case Salomon just about gets away with it if you disregard our 'pocket issues'.
