The Covert is a really excellent value jacket that comes with all the whistles and bells - it won't appeal to riders looking for a lightweight outer layer, but if you're after a well-built, insulated jacket that you can wear anywhere, and not just on the mountain, then you're in business.

Didriksons use their 'Stormsystem' in the Covert, which has been specially developed for harsh weather and features a fully waterproof outer shell with taped seams; in this case you then get a quilted polyester lining offering great insulation, albeit with weight and bulk.

Even so the Covert feels lovely when it's all buttoned up, and is still loose enough for layering underneath, although you shouldn't need too much of that.

The insulated, adjustable hood comes with a detachable faux fur trim which gives you the mountain man look - though in our case we preferred to remove this for improved peripheral vision.

The microfleece lined collar is quite high, warm and snug, and inside the jacket there's a zipped media pocket and a large inner mesh pocket for goggles, along with a removable powder skirt.

On the outside you get two large zipped chest pockets and two warm, microfleece lined hand pockets - these have snap fastenings. We'd have preferred zips to keep the snow out on wipeouts but the pocket flaps will deal with most of this. We also liked the corduroy inner of the flaps, which also features on places like the cuffs and collar - it's just an attractive feature as opposed to a functional one.

There's all the usual stuff like Velcro cuffs, cuff gaiters and adjustable hem, and really other than pit zips the Covert offers everything you need in a warm, insulated jacket, and at a very good price.
