We review the Quiksilver May Mountain ski jacket
Quiksilver May Mountain ski jacket
Skiers and boarders looking for a good value urban-style ski jacket
If you’re looking for a jacket that will work equally well on the mountain and in town the May is well worth checking out. It looks cool in either environment and at the price you can’t really go wrong.
Clearly this means there are a few compromises as it’s neither one thing nor the other, but I reckon you could live with those.
Perhaps the worst of the compromises is the hood, which has only limited adjustability and restricts your peripheral vision – but if you wear a beanie or a helmet whilst skiing (like most people) the hood is superfluous anyway.
The high collar and soft, warm lining are great, but note that there’s not a lot of insulation in the May so you will need to layer up beneath it.
You obviously get plenty of pockets – two handwarmer pockets accessible from above via flaps or the side via zips, two chest pockets (one zipped, one with a flap) and a Velcro fastening internal pocket, and the full length zip also has a large baffle with popper fasteners.
The cuffs also come with Velcro adjustment and the hem is adjustable too, and the outer fabric is water repellent rather than waterproof so bear that in mind if you’re looking to use it a soggy environment.
All told and despite the ‘compromises’ we really liked the May as a good looking and versatile ski jacket at an excellent price.
