New for the 2018 season, the Surfer is Bataleon's 3rd generation 3BT flagship model, claiming that the 3D modelling is unlike anything seen on a snowboard - quite a claim!
One thing is for sure is that it is aesthetically a thing of beauty; especially with the swallow tail being inspired by the shape of a 60's Cadillac. We didn't know whether to hang it in an art exhibition or ride it!
We chose the latter and thank the Lord we did! Even though this is a full-on fishtail powder board, it's flex and pop make it awesome to ride anywhere (obviously not on rails).
The triple base technology not only helps you not catch an edge while at speed, it also allows the board to float like a boat on water. Despite the lack of decent powder, we still enjoyed riding what powder we did have, finding it an effortless, surf feel.
Point this stick down the mountain and it is like a missile. The Surfer simply takes no prisoners as it charges and powers it's way through anything. Hard crud and ice cookies don't stand a chance against this killer machine.
Towards the end of the day the slopes were quite bumpy due to fresh snow but it did not faze the Surfer at all. We could still lock in a carve and let the board do the rest.
The Bataleon Surfer was one of our favourite boards we tested and we all wish we could have taken it out for longer. We would recommend this board to someone who likes to charge, go fast, and do some big old powder sprays when hitting the deep stuff
