Building on its incredible success the Salomon Derby comes in two different versions for 2015. At the board test I was able to ride the shorter and downsizable version that Salomon launched last year with such great acclaim.

The Derby is one of the newer downsizable snowboards that are designed to be ridden short like a skateboard in powder to give a surf-inspired feeling.

Having ridden the Yes 420 I really liked this style of snowboard and found the Salomon Derby was also amazing fun for firing about the mountain or delving into the powder.

6ft tall and 85kg I jumped on a 147 and couldn't believe the float this tiny board had in the powder. Also when navigating the mountain to get back to the top for more fresh lines the Derby was really fun at low speeds and felt stable and well-planted.

Thanks to its wider platform the Derby is impressively stable at speed and holds an edge really well, making it a great board for anyone from intermediate to pro who wants to enhance their experience of riding powder!
