Kästle skis are well renowned for their high-end production and slick looks - they are certainly one of our favourite ski brands and every model seems to stand out, but of course the price reflects that.

Still, the MX74 is no exception when it comes to having fun on the snow and despite its yawn inducing name, you better be wide awake when you ski on them because they just want to take you on the ride of your life.

Most of our test team scored top marks for edge hold and piste performance, creating confidence in every turns as they carve long smooth lines and respond instantly in zippy short turns. They are a joy to ski, especially if you're a strong, technical skier who doesn't want a race ski, but something more fun and versatile.

The all mountain label extends to variable terrain, moguls and the kind of chopped up snow you find beside the piste - if it's the only ski you had on a powder day then you'll get away with it, but they feel more at home on groomed runs.

Kästle's construction always feels solid and a traditional wood core and sidewall build combine with the distinctive Hollowtech tip that lightens the skis and helps to stabilise them at speed.

If you're budget isn't limited and you're looking for a high-performance ski for zipping around the mountain on and guaranteeing a fun time whilst you're at it then we'd put the MX74 right at the top of our shopping list.
