Volkl arguably have one of the greatest freeski lines up in the business - think Mantra, Shiro, Kendo and the now discontinued Gotama.
The new 100 Eight comes in to replace what was the Gotama - a wide freeride ski that's accessible to entry level freeride skiers but can easily take the demands of a strong, technically proficient off-piste expert.
At £525 without bindings, this ski certainly appears to be good value for money - it feels super smooth to ride in the powder. On test we were lucky enough to have perfect powder conditions for this ski.
They cut through the snow with ease and they feel light and highly responsive in every turn - a real joy and a lot of fun.
The reinforced wood core provides decent torsional rigidity and for a ski this wide, they are surprisingly easy and fun to ski on groomed slopes - sure, a little clunky in the shorter turns but you'd expect that.
They're a truly versatile freeride ski that would suit someone keen to explore more off-piste terrain - as they progress and improve, they will stay with you as most experts would be more than happy blasting around on these.
Overall we'd suggest they suit a lighter, more agile skier that a larger, heavier one but they will surely become another classic in Volkl's already impressive line-up of freeride skis.
