At 3,454m, this is the highest railway station in Europe, and after you’ve actually travelled through the Eiger, you arrive at the year-round winter wonderland of the Aletsch glacier. The summit station has multi-media shows, ice palace and restaurants, while the glacier views are breathtaking. And the Sphinx weather station glinting against a blue sky is truly inspiring. GOINSEARCHOF007 The Schilthorn-Piz Gloria, above the resort of Mürren and the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley, has some eye-watering ski runs from its summit, but even if you don’t ski it’s worth taking the cable car to the top for the views across to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and to visit the interactive James Bond exhibition. The mountain-top was immortalised in the Bond film ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ and Bond World and the 007 Walk of Fame are a fun celebration of the movie’s magical mountain moments. The Schilthorn also has a couple of dizzying walks. LOVETHELAKES Get a unique perspective on the lakes and mountains with a winter kayak trip. If you prefer less paddling, excursion boats ply the waters of both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. And Interlaken is the perfect base from which to explore not only the many picturesque towns and villages that fringe the lakes, but also to reach the 200km of pistes in the Jungfrau ski resorts. Interlaken has a wealth of hotels, bars, cafes, shops, museums and restaurants to discover. When snow conditions permit, the local slopes around the lakes offer family- friendly skiing of their own. THAT’SICEMAGIC! If you’ve ever wished you could become an ice prince or princess, your wish can come true in Interlaken! Even the most unsteady ice skater will love the Top of Europe Ice Magic spectacle when the centre of the lakeside town is transformed into a skating wonderland, with rinks, winding runways and cosy restaurant. The third season starts on 17 December and runs until 25 February. Packages start from CHF 140 and include two nights accommodatioon, skating passes and skate rental, plus refreshment vouchers and wellness pass. 17 EUROPE’SLONGESTTOBOGGAN RUN,INGRINDELWALD,ISTHE ULTIMATEFAMILYTHRILL 17
