Part of Elan's women's all mountain collection, the insomnia is the most suited to speed and with its nimble 73cm waist width, is also the queen of the piste.
Equipped with Amphibio technology - a true innovation in ski shaping - the Powershift lives up to its name, with rocker on the outside edge of the skis making turns effortless and camber on the inside edge enhancing grip and contact with the snow. The inside edge is much looser in the snow and therefore easier to rotate around the turn without applying pressure. The Insomnia also has the longest sidecut radius out of all the powershift group which helps with high performance long turns. The only drawback we can see to Amphibio technology is that you have to remember to put your skis on the right feet!
With a mere 73mm underfoot there's little point in rating the Insomnia Powershift's off piste performance, as anything more than a light dusting of snow will have you working hard to keep it moving through the powder. This makes it an all mountain ski only in the sense that it can deal with variable piste conditions, if you're looking for true versatility then look elsewhere.
Provided you're sold on the piste performance of the Insomnia Powershifts you'll also be happy with the graphics, which make for some of the more attractive skis on the rack, with cool glacial blue tones on a dark base really popping against the white of the snow.
On a crisp winter's day, when the pistes are perfectly groomed and firm we wouldn't hesitate to reach for the Insomnia Powershifts for confident high-speed carving. Although a touch more expensive than most equivalents in the market if you want high performance then it's worth the extra spend - If you're passionate enough about piste performance skiing then this technology is well worth the investment.
