Built for ski mountaineering but versatile enough for a whole lot more - we've teamed up with Outdoors Magic and Osprey to offer you the chance at winning an 18L Firn pack for your next alpine adventure. Enter below to win!

This is the Firn ski mountaineering pack, a versatile bag built for much more than meets the eye. Made primarily as a ski-touring pack, the Firn is optimised for fast and light ‘ski-mo’ ascents, as we found out when we tested the this pack in the Dolomites earlier this year. This season, our friends over at Outdoors Magic have been assessing it not just for its ski touring credentials, but also for its versatility – more specifically, its potential as an all-rounder that can be used for hillwalking and day-to-day use. So far we’ve both been impressed.

Key features of the Firn 18L

  • Vest-fit harness
  • Ski lasso carry system
  • 998g (S/M) to 1.02kg (M/L)
  • Atilon foam backpanel with ridge EVA foam for padding, covered by snow shedding stretch woven fabric
  • Removable HDPE framesheet with HDPE single stay for extra support and stiffness
  • Padded hipwings with Ergo Pull 25mm web belt
  • Front panel access
  • Top goggles pocket
  • Phone/GPS pocket (if not using beacon)
  • Top compression strap doubles as axe stabiliser
  • Front panel avalanche tool pocket
  • On-body accessible skin/crampon pocket
  • Reinforced ski loop with garage
  • Dual axe/pole attachments
  • Bluesign approved product

The Firn 18 is made from tough, recycled materials with bluesign approval. The back panel has foam ridges covered in a stretch woven fabric, a combination that prevents snow climbing to the pack while also helping to create airflow and cooling.

The harness resembles the same kind of design you’d expect to see on a trail running vest. Not only is it made to fit with the contours of your body, but it’s also able to move closely with you, especially when the blood’s pumping and your lungs are really working.

Osprey of course have a whole host of packs dedicated to hiking – the Talon being one of the favourites over at Outdoors Magic – but if you’re a ski mountaineer looking for a pack that doesn’t necessarily need to be stowed away once winter’s over, this would be a great option to get your hands on.
