The Alugator Pro looks like a hardy piece of kit with its gnarly, bright red anodized aluminium blade and oval shaft with integrated grip zone.

The blade has a wave shape sharpened zone at the front and a straight back for cutting straight snow profiles. The ribbing provides excellent rigidity and ensures there is no torsional twisting going on when the chips are down. The special coating on the blade helps prevent excessive snow build-up that can sometimes clog up a shovel when the snow is wet.

The ergonomically shaped D-grip along with the 93cm extended length provide a comfortable shovelling experience without putting unneccesary pressure on your back.

The versatility of the Alugator Pro impressed us with a blade that can be locked in three positions allowing the shovel to be used for scoop, cut and hoe functions.

In all positions the shovel feels solid and sturdy and being the highest volume blade in Mammut’s shovel line up moves a lot of snow fast.

It’s worth mentioning that all of that shovelling capacity gives the Alugator Pro quite a large collapsed size so it might be worth checking the blade and collapsed dimensions before taking the plunge and finding it doesn’t fit in your pack.
