The cinchable gear bags that hook over ski tips are a great idea
So big that you'll have to pack carefully to avoid baggage charges

At 195cm in height and weighing 3.62kg empty, the Roundtrip is one serious piece of ski-hucking luggage that will have check-in staff's eyes widening as you approach - not to mention challenge your car-packing skills for that trip to the airport.

That said, the two pairs of skis that this bag is designed to carry are never going to be an easy load to accommodate - even loose. And if you only have one set of skis you can go for Thule's more modestly proportioned Single Ski Roller.

But given the double ski carrying challenge the Double Roller rises to the task admirably, keeping all your gear padded, protected and organised so that your skiing holiday can't be ruined by one clumsy baggage handler.

To this end both ends of the bag are reinforced with durable, waterproof tarpaulin-type material and extra padding, there is a sleeve pocket for your ski poles, and a long zipped mesh pocket which will take gloves, hats and other bits of clothing - giving your precious skis even more protection.

Down the length of the bag runs a padded divider which separates the two pairs of skis, but which can be flattened down if you want to carry a snowboard instead.

As well as external compression straps, straps and clips hold the skis in place and Thule include a pair of cinchable separate bags with an external integrated padded pouch on each which slips over the end of one of your skis - one at each end of the bag - giving your tips even more protection and the bag more overall stability and rigidity.

A pair of robust, lockable zips (padlock not included) handles the three-sided closure, with three grab handles making the bag easy to manhandle, and there is a removable should strap - although we'd never recommend carrying a bag weighing north of 20 kgs over one shoulder...

Thankfully you don't need to, as the classy, sophisticated looks are topped off with a pair of strong and smooth-running 'alloy' style wheels, which wouldn't look out of place on a scaled down German executive automobile.

Despite the size, we managed to fit the bag through the hand-rest hole in the rear seats of the hire car.
