Review of the Bergans Trolltind - a robust shell that scores highly on insulation, too. Good for hillwalking as well as skiing and ski touring.

versatile and a nice 'bridge' between a shell and insulated jacket
relatively heavy for a shell

Bergans' Trolltind was one of the burlier shells that we tested which actually gives for a nice combination of light weight along with a little bit of insulation.

The outer fabric is two-layer Dermizax NX which as two-way stretch and is waterproof, windproof and breathable, whilst there's also a meshlining (which provides the aforementioned 'insulation') of wicking Fieldsensor fabric .

There's a large, adjustable, zip-off hood with a wired visor, and hand and chest pockets which are pack compatible plus a sleeve pocket and inner security pocket. Bergans say the Trolltind is specifically designed for both alpine and telemark sking so it comes with pit zips, a detachable, adjustable powder skirt, Recco reflectors, articulated elbows, tailored sleeve closures and an extended back.

We'd also be happy to use it for hillwalking outside of the ski season so if you're looking for one jacket for all purposes the Trolltind is a good option.
