We liked the great snow protection around the neck, the long body length to protect the lower back from cold spots when lift riding and the good warmth to weight ratio.
On the down side, the hood is not quite large enough to be fully helmet compatible and we also felt the outer material may be a little light for tree skiing where it could snag or rip.

Whether you're heading to the 3 Valleys for your annual February trip or splashing out on a once-in-a-lifetime day of heli skiing, the Brilliant is a pretty 'brilliant' (ahem) choice.

Salomon have an impressive and established heritage when it comes to producing high quality skiwear and the Brilliant jacket continues this theme.

Fully featured, insulated, and weather proof, the Brilliant delivers enough features to satisfy the majority of resort skiers with a penchant for the odd lift-accessed off piste descent.

It may not be an uber technical jacket but the Brilliant still packs a relevant punch when it comes to features. The "Motion Fit" cut and the stretch Advanced Skin 20/20 ensure the Brilliant jacket moves with you as you climb into the snow cat or lift the kids into the nanny's arms before you rip up some steeps before lunch. The addition of pit zips for ventilation and the removable hood extend the relevance of the Brilliant jacket beyond the cold winter months into those balmy sunny spring ski days when rosé and goggle tans abound. Throw in the powder skirt, water resistant zips and internal goggle pocket and you can tell that a great deal of thought and experience has gone into making this fine resort skiing jacket.

Whilst this is by no means a hardcore mountain jacket, it is a competent, comfortable, well designed and presented downhill ski jacket that will satisfy a wide spectrum of wintersports enthusiasts..
