The Atomic Redster XTi made an impressive debut last season so we were keen to get our hands on a pair of these for another review for the 2017 version.

Atomic launched the Redster XTi last season when it was one of our favourite skis in the piste category and the major change of note this winter is that a pair of these now costs £25 less than last year - impressive.

The skis are derived from Atomic's pro line, but have been tweaked a little for "people who love the high-level performance of a Redster, but who don't want to rock the racing look on the piste all day".

Don't let that statement lull you into thinking this is a ski to dawdle around on, as the Redster XTi remains a full-on piste charger. They're slick, they're stiff and the more you put into them the more you'll get out.

Tip the Redster XTi's on edge, give them a push and enjoy the carve. Work them quickly in shorts and it is just as much fun whipping out the turns.

That performance comes from the 'XT' in the name, or 'Cross Turn' in Atomic-speak, meaning the ski has a multi-radius sidecut that translates to great fun in both slalom and giant slalom turns.

A full sidewall helps with impressive edge grip, while the ash and poplar wood core allied to titanium produces a stable ride. There is still oodles of pent-up energy to help you dart from turn to turn.

This a full-on piste carver for advanced skiers and experts who want something manageable, more forgiving and fun to ride. Red is definitely the new black.
