The Volkl Yumi scored highly on our 2013 on snow ski test in Austria and although it came overall second place in the all-mountain category, it was a close call for first. It performs well all over the mountain and adapts to your speeds too.

Perhaps Volkl have made this Yumi as pink as they could so that you know it’s a women’s ski.

If you ignore the graphics, which were particularly popular with our female test members, and start to look under the bonnet, everything else about this ski shouts out testosterone, adrenaline fuelled machine for skiing the whole mountain like a possessed Ibex.

Still, the fact is that the Yumi is easy to use when you’re in that mellow place, but ramp it up and the skis respond like a tautly strung bow ready to release its energy on the mountain.

The Yumi has the look and feel of a Freeride orientated ski and certainly it performs well off-piste in even the most powdery conditions, but it also makes smooth turns on-piste with awesome edge grip and a lively feel.

This was certainly one of the very top skis on our 2013 on snow test in Austria and loves to take on the whole mountain – it would suit advanced to expert female skiers who want a one ski to do it all tool.
