Polish brand, Majesty Skis, focus more on freeride and freestyle models than anything else and the Velvet certainly prefers the powder to anything else.

The graphics and colour may have gone all soft and girly this year but don't be deceived, this lightweight backcountry ski is pitched at the gutsy and adventurous ladies among us.

The construction is similar to last year with an elliptical rocker in the 170cm, but the radius has been shifted slightly to the centre so the ski feels a bit shorter and easier to handle.

This is good for tackling more chewed up conditions while the length maintains stability off-piste. You need to put a bit of muscle in to get the best out of these skis but when you're up to speed they edge well and are a treat in open powder.

Gunning through the fresh felt a bit like water skiing with that big rockered nose lifting and gliding over everything. This is not a ski you can potter around on and low speed and short turns should be avoided. These skis are for ladies that revel in the backcountry and only cross the piste when they have to.
