The Volkl Mantra was one of our favourite skis in the tightly fought freeride category during our 2013 on snow ski test in Kuhtai, Austria. A great all round, versatile ski that performs well all over the mountain.

The Volkl Mantra might look a little ‘alternative’ with its Asian inspired graphics, but when it comes down to the skiing, it confirms perfectly to the demands of an experienced off-piste skier.

It’s not as forgiving as some of the other Freeride models available, so it would suit a higher standard of skier, perhaps an instructor level seasonaire or ski racer who wants an off-piste toy.

It’s a solid, stable and reliable ski that scored very highly in our test.

Performance on groomed slopes was excellent, with high speed, long radius turns scoring highly compared to many other skis in the Freeride category.

As you’d expert, in the powder it handles well, but you need to work them hard, the upside being that the more you put in, the more they give.

Aggressive skiers looking to get maximum performance out of a ski without compromise should certainly consider the Volkl Mantra.
