The choice of many 'seasonnaire' freeride skiers, the Volkl Shiro is certainly one of our top choices in 2013. Coming in right up at the top of our 2013 ski review, it likes nothing more than seeking out the best terrain on the mountain.

This ski came second on our test in the Big Mountain category, but only just.

It’s an awesome ski off-piste and makes you feel confident enough to ski through anything. Although it’s a big ski, at 119 under foot one of the biggest on test, it doesn't feel like it when you’re skiing.

The skis are responsive and lively, providing a light weight floatation that feels so stable at higher speeds, you feel like you can ski forever. We tested the skis in a variety of conditions including powder, crud and windblown snow and they just dealt with it all, leaving you to enjoy the ride.

At the end of the day when you ride home on-piste, you’ll find that it deals with the groomed stuff pretty well too, scoring 7 out of 10 for groomed runs. Score for off-piste, no doubt for us 5 out of 5 was the only answer.
