Overview

The Slovakia region of the High Tatras is located in a protected environment of the Tatra National Park and formed by districts of Poprad and Kežmarok.  Tatranska Lomnica is the highest ski resort in Slovakia and, though small, has modern cable cars and chairlifts and snow-making on 85% of the pistes. The steepest slopes in the Lomnické Sedlo at 2,590m will please more demanding skiers with a vertical drop of 1,300m. The resort also offers more than 20km of easier slopes ideal for families with children.

Ski area

The Tatranská Lomnica ski resort offers slopes of all levels. A highly logical arrangement means that the upper part is difficult, the middle part is intermediate to easy and the lower part features almost exclusively easy slopes. This may mean novices never get to ski from the top, but will have powerful motivation to make fast progress! The runs in the upper section lead across expansive mountain slopes. In the lower area, the slopes lead through wide forest glades. The longest run is a 6.5km slope from 2196m down to the base in Tatranska Lomnica.

There is a snow park on the left side of the Turistická slope in nearby Štrbské Pleso with jumps, rails and various obstacles. There is also a dedicated freeride area off the top of Lomnické Sedlo.

Apres-ski

A touch on the quiet side for those used to the hustle and bustles of the Alps, but the The Après-Ski Bar Tatranská Lomnica (umbrella bar) and the Humno Music Pub are good for some end-of-the-day entertainment. Families will enjoy the snow-tubing and sledging and there is a Nordic skiing circuit.

The Fun Zone and its snow waves are very popular with families, children and skiing beginners. It is located on the slope of Štart východ and is meant for all skiers.

Kiuds will also love the giant snowmen that are a regular feature in this resort.

There are restaurants located at the base station, the Štart middle station and the Skalnaté Pleso station. In all, there are five mountain restaurants and ski huts, of which the Skalnatá Chata mountain hut is the most charming.

There is a bed and breakfast hotel as well as a hotel with direct access to the slopes. Additional accommodation is found throughout the nearby village of Tatranská Lomnica, just a kilometre away from the lifts.

There is a separate cable car that goes to the highest peak of Lomnicky Stit at 2634m, though this is strictly for the views, best enjoyed with an overnight stay.
