Overview

Štrbské Pleso is the highest village in the High Tatras, and this small resort is popular with families & children. Beneath the 2093m Predné Solisko, lifts and slopes lead down from a high-point of 1840m.

The resort has brand new ski lifts which were all updated in 2014. Experienced skiers will enjoy the free ride areas and crowd-free slopes. The resort also has 10km of excellent cross country skiing tracks.

Ski area

It’s not big: intermediate skiers will have ticked off all its runs in half a day, so it probably works best in tandem with the other High Tatras resort, Tatranska Lomnica or as an excursion/change of scenery from the country’s main resort Jasná, in the Low Tatras. What there is here is best-suited to beginners and intermediates, though there is some free-ride terrain for anyone champing at the bit. Beginners have eight runs, all near the base and intermediates a whole five, split between above the treeline upper slopes and a gladed area lower down. The high altitude of the resort (1400-1825m), together with modern snowmaking systems ensures excellent skiing conditions. Skiers are transported by two fast chairlifts, one 3-seat chairlift and two ski lifts.

The resort also offers a little night skiing, and there’s also an attractive snow park with many jumps, rails aned obstacles.

Cross-country skiing is also popular at Štrbské Pleso where it has a long history - World Championships were held here as early as in 1976.. Thanks to the high altitude of the trails (about 1,400m) there are very good snow conditions. Cross-country trails are divided into 11 routes with a total length of 26km.

There are ski and snowboard rentals, ski-services and ski schools for beginners in the area too. The area ski pass is also valid in Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica.

Off the slopes

The Štrbské Pleso ski resort is family and child-friendly. There is a children's area at the base station (Maxiland). Families will also love the dog-sledding, snow tubing and snow rafting, while adrenalin lovers will want to try the bungee jumping and even the paragliding.

There’s a bar at the base station, but otherwise apres-ski is on the quiet side. There’s just the one hotel at the resort, the Hotel FIS. Other hotels, including the Grand Hotel Kempinski High Tatras, are located in Štrbské Pleso (1 km away). The five-star Kempinski is one of the leading hotels in Slovakia - with a luxurious spa, exclusive shuttle to the lifts and a la carte restaurant..
