If you're looking for a budget insulated jacket this winter for both ski and casual wear, the Summit is hard to beat - sure it's quite heavy and bulky but it's not aimed at the 'fast and light' crowd.

The outer fabric is waterproof, windproof and breathable and has fully taped seams and there's an insulated quilt inner. You get a stowable hood which is adjustable and lined - the adjustment isn't as good as on more expensive jackets but it's adequate.

There are two handwarmer pockets, two chest pockets and an inner pocket, all zipped, and adjustable cuffs and hem keep cold winds at bay.

The colourways are very understated so won't appeal to everyone, but if you're trying winter sports for the first time and don't want to splash out on a high tech jacket the Summit is a good option.
