10 of the best accessories

Buff-dorn-knit-hat-navy.jpgBuff Dorn Knitted and Polar bobble hat | £24.50

Best known for their tubular neck warmers, which can be worn in a multitude of ways, Buff's new range of stylish beanies includes this women’s Navy Dorn Knitted and Polar bobble hat.

The design of the hat is classic, with a chunky, knitted outer topped by a tastefully sized purple bobble. There is a discrete Buff logo on the rim and the hat looks good on both the snow and on UK walks. An internal microfleece band adds warmth and next-to-skin comfort.

Riemann_P20_Suncream.jpgRiemann P20 | £15

Riemann's P20 is a once-a-day sunscreen spray which promises '10 hours of very water resistant, quick-drying' protection. With the consistency of a lotion rather than a cream the non-pressurised spray is easy to squirt where you need it and then spread around and rub in. If you're prone to dry skin you might be better off with a more creamy alternative, as the P20 has a higher alcohol content than some. If you're cautious, Riemann also produce an SPF 50 version of this spray, which we would certainly recommend to be sure of fail-safe, all-day sun protection on bluebird day slopes, especially for fair or young skin.

Zardoz NOTwax | £10

The non-toxic and odourless NOTwax Pocket Puck is an alternative to traditional iron-on waxes, for recoating the bases of our scratched up skis or snowboards in a layer of 100% liquid Flouropolymer.

Slip one into your luggage before you head off for a week on the slopes and keep sliding faster for longer by giving your base an application at the start of every day.

The NOTwax Pocket Puck isn’t really a replacement for getting your base properly waxed but if your last wax treatment is wearing thin, this is a great little product to give you that extra turn of speed so you don't get left behind.

Outdoor Tech Buckshot Pro Bluetooth speaker | £60

Based on the form of its more modest predecessor, the Buckshot speaker, the Buckshot Pro now boasts a powerful LED light with three settings – strobe, camplight and torch – as well as a USB output to transform it into a powerbank for charging your phone or GPS. The speaker won't blow you away but it is certainly better than your phone.

Keen Fremont Lace boot | £140

The Fremont Lace from Keen is a women's insulated casual boot made with waterproof, seam sealed leather that will keep your feet dry and warm while you cruise the après ski.

The water resistant full grain leather upper has a lovely look and feel and is highly durable. For added protection it is also seam sealed, making these boots a luxurious but tough winter defence against rain and snow.

Inside is Keen Warm charcoal bamboo insulation, which is light and anti-odour, while on the sole a generous tread is grippy on ice, with big heel and toe bumper protection.

Cab9 Stealth Sunglasses | £28

Cab9 proves cool sunglasses don’t have to cost the earth, with this new range of eye-wear

which, although designed primarily for the slopes, they wouldn’t look out of place on an Ibizan beach.

The Stealth sunglasses cost a shade under 30 quid yet have a tough and light frame that can take plenty of knocks, drops and bangs as well as glare reducing polarised lenses. The lenses themselves are impact and scratch resistant and block 100% of UVA/B/400 rays.

Arc’teryx Rush Gloves | £220

The Rush Glove is designed for back-country use, with a minimal design, short cuff, simple Velcro closure and thin Primaloft insulation.

The leather palm and forefingers are supple enough for tweaking gear in the backcountry and the Gore-Tex Pro material on the upper is waterproof and breathable.

Two types of Primaloft insulation have been used to keep your hands toasty warm without adding too much bulk. On the back of the hand 133g Primaloft Silver is used for maximum warmth whereas the palm and fingers have a denser 100g of Primaloft Gold. The resulting glove is warm, as dexterous as you can expect and a pleasure to wear.

Thule ranger 500 | £250

Skis don't fit well in cars, with the alternative mounting them in full view on a roof rack or inside a roof box. Thule produces several excellent Roof boxes that will do the job but the beauty of the Ranger is that after your trip it's a cinch to store, the semi-rigid box folding down to the size of a 190cm x 30 x 30cm tube.

Weighing 11kg empty, and giving you 260 litres of storage from a 190 x 50 x 30cm box, the Ranger can take up to four pairs of skis on its included internal carriers and then be stuffed with gear, which its tough waterproof outer, welded seams and lockable sealed zip will keep safe and dry.

Eagle creek no matter what rolling duffel | £108

Coming in five colours with a capacity of 105 litres, the Roller Duffel is a great utility bag for the outdoors. Made with a tough rubbery water repellent fabric it has two sturdy wheels on one corner, carry handles at either end and top straps to protect the full length zipped closure. It packs down neatly into the included storage bag, which itself is useful for packing, and rolls well – only tall people will find it needs care to stop it banging their ankles and tipping.

YI 4K Action Camera | £275

YI has stormed into the action camera market with a real rival to Go Pro's market leading Hero4 Black, yet at half the price! You'll need some of the spare change to buy non-included essentials like memory cards and mounts – and the waterproof housing (£20), which in our line of fun is essential. The camera shoots 4K video and 12MP stills, has a 2hr video shooting battery life, can be operated by the touch screen on the back or an easy to use app, a 2.19in 330ppi screen, and a fixed 155-degree wide field of view, as well as wifi connectivity! Without doubt, the 4K Action Camera is a game changer.
