More resorts are opening their slopes early for the winter 2010-2011 season, including big name ski areas such as Schladming and Kitzbuhel in Austria and Swiss resorts Laax and Verbier.

Twenty glacier and several non-glacier ski areas are now open in the Alps, plus a dozen or so in Scandinavia. Geilo and Hemsedal in Norway are both now up and running for the new season.

Eight areas are now open in the USA, including resorts on the east and west coasts, in the mid-west and north-east -- among them are Killington, Keystone and Copper Mountain. In Canada, Lake Louise is now open for business, while Banff is 'just one snowfall away' according to its website.
