The first person to the top was 12-year-old Owen Brunt, who has managed to be on the first chair of the season for the last three years. Owen, a student at Big White’s Community School and a member of the Big White Freestyle Team, woke up at 4:30am and was at the lift by 5:30am.
“This year is my first year with a big competition ahead, so I’m super excited for the season,” Owen said. “Last year I wore a sleeping bag so I’d be warm while waiting for the lift to start up. This year I wore three jackets!”
With 7cm of fresh snow, a 75cm alpine base at the top of the Ridge Rocket Quad and more snow in the forecast, it proved to be a great opening weekend for those who made the trip up to the resort.
Skiers and snowboarders visiting the resort are currently able to purchase lift tickets at 50% off their regular retail price until the resort opens more chairlifts and terrain.
