They're still pounding the pistes in this Lake Tahoe resort

squaw valley memorial day

Favourable weather conditions and a season that brought over 700 inches of snow have kept the pistes skiing on the slopes of Squaw Valley into the summer, with a season that's due to extend right past 4th July. And to keep the customers rolling in, the resort have been offering $5 lift tickets every Friday in June, giving skiers the chance to rock up and ski for a fraction of what it might cost to hit the slopes in winter.

Squaw Valley spokesperson Alex Spychalsky was positive about the extended season, saying "it's a boost to the village, the locally owned businesses that are at the base of our mountain (and) also for the north Lake Tahoe area."

Of the $5 Friday scheme she said "We just want to bring as many people out who have never experienced spring skiing (or) maybe who have never experienced Squaw Valley before, and give them an inexpensive way to get out on the snow and have some fun".

In this video you can see skiers soaking up the sun on slushy pistes and generally having an absolute blast.
