The long-awaited New Tauern Spa in Kaprun has opened in time for the new ski season.

The huge spa, located at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, has been an eyesore for the Austrian village during its construction.

The 48,000 square-metres wellness centre incorporates a 320-bed, four-star resort and large water and sauna areas. The spectacular water area includes a range of pools including a 25-metre swimming pool, a brine pool, a grotto-themed relaxation pool and a pool with a counter current system.

Guests can enjoy a choice of saunas, from Finnish sauna to smoke and herbal saunas and various outdoor steam baths and aromatherapy centres.

Children are also catered for with 124-metre slide, an adventure grotto with visual and audio effects, a kids' spa, a creativity room and a cinema.
