TL;DR Review

The Dope Blizzard Full Zip Snowboard Jacket punches well above its weight, offering a minimalist but entirely practical mountain jacket that’ll deal with weather just as well as the bar afterwards.

Intro:

Dope was started in 2006 by two Swedish brothers, Emil and Linus, who struggled to find quality gear to ride in. They ordered some from the States, and began a small gear import business which has grown into a company that makes its own designs under the Montec and Dope brands.

Who Is The Dope Blizzard Full Zip Snowboard Jacket Aimed at?

According to Dope, the Blizzard Full Zip is a rider-favourite that blends comfort and performance, combining a ‘bombproof’ 2-way stretch outer shell with the sort of technical specs you’d see on a big-ticket coat, and a minimalist ethos that ditches unnecessary features. The Blizzard is a simplified all-mountain brawler that’ll stand up to pretty much anything mother nature serves up.

Dope Blizzard Full Zip Snowboard Jacket Materials & their meaning:

Bluesign approved, the Dope Blizzard Full Zip Snowboard Jacket features a bonded waterproof membrane that provides a solid barrier against moisture, and fully taped seams together with a PFAS-free DWR treatment for rapid water beading and runoff. It’s packed with medium-weight insulation for a sensible balance between warmth and performance (60gsm body, 40gsm sleeves and hood).

Dope Blizzard Full Zip Snowboard Jacket Style, Fit and Features:

The Dope Blizzard Full Zip Snowboard Jacket impresses with its quality straight out of the packaging (itself recyclable). Pitched as a minimalist jacket there’s no snowskirt, and little clutter around the jacket in general, good for Insta as well as longevity. Speaking of the latter, there’s plenty of strengthening bar tack stitching across key stress points (pockets and cuff velcro for example), and the outer face fabric feels robust without adding too much bulk.

There’s clearly been plenty of thought put into the design and build, with two zippered, roomy waist pockets that are lined for warmth and for easy access - they also contain the skirt adjusters so you can snug up the waist without getting cold hands. A left-hand chest pocket offers plenty of storage for phones and other essentials, and there’s a velcro ski pass pocket on the left forearm.

Up top the roomy storm hood has three adjusters (left, right and behind the head) to clamp it down when needed, a bombshelter aided by a generous beard-guard around the upper reaches of the main zip. The adjusters feature tiny ‘Dope’ branding, which is a nice detail, as are the simple but effective rubber grommets that prevent the adjuster sliding off the cord and getting lost.

The main zip is a coarse-toothed plastic beast, which should ride over midlayers smoothly without snagging, and it’s protected by a double-layer storm flap to fend off the downhill breeze. If you’re feeling warm though, there are a pair of pitzips to allow you to vent.

Cuffs have a de-rigeur velcro closure, but inside also have a stretchy lycra-style thumbloop gauntlet, not only pleasant from a tactile point of view, but also handy for keeping sleeves where you want them, and trapping the maximum heat over the wrist area to prevent hot-aches.

Overall it’s a roomy sizing that’s got plenty of room for movement without being a featureless sack, and the build quality is first rate.
