The new Alaïa Chalet complex is located in Lens, next to the ski resort of Crans Montana and a two-hour drive from Geneva. The 5,000m2 indoor and outdoor action sports centre offers trampolines, foam pits, an indoor and outdoor skate park, a ski and snowboard jump and a music studio, as well as an on-site bar serving coffee and cocktails. Alaïa Chalet follows in the footsteps of the popular indoor Freestyle Academy in LAAX, Switzerland.
Alaïa Chalet aims to be a training facility for Swiss and international freestyle skiers and snowboarders, enabling them to train indoors as well as at Crans Montana’s snow park. The new space will be shared with gymnasts, skateboarders and other street sport athletes. Courses and coaching will be on offer for all abilities.
Founder Adam Bonvin said “the goal of Alaïa Chalet is to the raise the bar of extreme sport in Switzerland.”
Skiers and snowboarders will also find a twist to the indoor skis and snowboards they can practise on – rather than using traditional skis on a dry slope, Alaïa Chalet’s skis and boards have skateboard-style wheels, enabling them to run on the wooden jumps and skateboarding ramps that have been constructed inside the complex.
There are also plans for a larger Alaïa empire. The Alaïa Wave – the first outdoor surf centre in Switzerland – is set to open in the summer of 2020 in the central Valais area, close to Crans-Montana. Together, the complexes aiming to make Western Switzerland a one-stop shop for extreme sports, coinciding with surfing and skateboarding being named as official sports for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
