Warm start to November causes concern for resorts but it looks like the tides are turning with a massive snowstorm due to hit the French Alps this weekend.

At time of writing, the snow is coming down hard across many French ski resorts with 46cm reported so far today in Chamonix and a further 51cm due over the weekend.

Les Contamines, Flaine and Megeve are all predicted to get a metre of the white stuff over the course of the weekend, with Samoens, Les Carroz, Avoriaz and Morzine following just behind with between 90cm and 100cm of snow predicted.

Temperatures have plummeted after a worryingly warm November with Chamonix braced for double digit minus figures at the top lift over the weekend and into early next week.

Low temperatures are great news for snow making and the storm potentially heralds the start of the season for these ever-popular French resorts.
