The Osprey Kamber is a snowsports-specific pack, but does it pack a punch when the white stuff is falling; we test it out.

Very comfortable in use; loads of features
Chest strap sliders are a bit stiff

The Osprey Kamber 22 comes with the usual Osprey build-quality and has a solid, tough feel to it without being too heavy.

The harness and hip-belt feel reassuringly stable and comfortable in use, although the 'sliders' on our chest strap were a bit stiff when moved up and down on the shoulder straps, but that's really a minor quibble.

On the outside you get tuck-away straps for ski or snowboard carry, and an integrated dual-position helmet carry along with tuck-away ice tool loops, so all your hardware can be lugged up and down the mountain in secure and stable fashion.

The stuff you don't ever really want to use is carried in a zipper outer avalanche safety gear pocket. A nice touch is that it has a different coloured zipper pull to all the rest of the zips on the pack so you can home in on it instantly in an emergency.

Above this sits a good-sized, fleece-lined, zipped goggle pocket. The main compartment has full-length zips for easy access and contains a mesh security pocket and hydration sleeve.

Your hydration tube sits in an insulated sleeve in the right-hand shoulder strap and has an integrated Velcro strap to hold it in place, and both the shoulder straps, hip belt (with zipped pockets each side) and back panel are adequately but not bulkily padded.

In conclusion the Kamber 22 offers pretty much all you need in a non-ABS pack for forays into the backcountry.
