A disproportionate amount of my ski instructor pals have been riding the Atomic Redster X9 of late, when I was given the opportunity to test them, I was intrigued to find out why...

Not a particularly forgiving ski.

The Redster X9 from Atomic is a high end piste ski designed for those that fancy themselves as the next Mikaela Shiffrin or Marcel Hirscher. And this is because the Redster X9 offers the perfect blend of giant slalom carving turns and  quick edge to edge short radius turns, basically it's great at carving out all types of turns on all types of piste given the right technique and input.

Sticking to 100% traditional camber is a rare thing these days and having no rocker means you need to be more precise with your turn initiation, but the payback is more stability and edge grip on ice or hard pack. You also get a livelier ride with more feedback when putting the power down.

This power is bolstered by a titanium body and wood core which create a strong and long-lasting ski, but watch out, if you haven't got the muscles for it leg fatigue can set in quickly - skiing slushy bumps at the end of the day on these can be quite exhausting!

With the name Redster, you would have thought this ski might have been red, but in fact this model is a vivid green that pops and therefore stands out on the slopes.

In summary, if you enjoy nothing more than pushing your edge angles to the max on hard packed fresh corduroy pistes, this is the ski for you.
