The Fisher Ranger 89 feels balanced and efficient and would certainly make a good touring ski set up. The new elliptical shape of the ski (you can see how the top surface of the ski arcs from edge to edge) creates more torsional stiffness and helps the transition between quick turns.

This new 'Aeroshape' technology makes the ski more streamlined so it is easier in touring climbs and less resistant and agile in the downhill.

An air tec (milled beech and poplar) wood core, carbon nose and weight-saving at the side of the ski, centres the weight in the middle of the ski aiding balance and stability. Our tester found these skis quick and easy to manoeuvre but they also felt a bit flighty and twitchy when pushed harder.

It took a little while to get used to the way the ski was weighted, but for what you sacrifice in strength and power you gain in weight loss and efficiency. an early rise tip and tail also help with manoeuvrability .
